SDC members take part in a variety of educational and outreach activities for elementary, middle-school and high-school students, as well as in community centers and retirement homes in Northeast Ohio. Our programs provide an opportunity for audiences of various ages and backgrounds to learn and experience world rhythms—such as samba and Afro-Cuban batá rhythms—by listening and playing.

We demonstrate multiple percussion instruments, teach about the cultural and historical contexts in which these rhythms emerged, and invite participants to drum and dance with us. SDC also provides the beauty and joy of live music with audiences unable to attend concert halls or jazz clubs.
